I recently finished reading Brenè Brown’s book, Rising Strong.
A must read if you believe her research is the game changer I know it to be.
My work as a Leader Trainer and Coach has been validated by her research so many times over.
This book is another example of it.
Every client I work with, whether directly or through their company seem to have a correlation.
The correlation is a need to bring forth their vision and leadership, and learn tools to side step the fear and shame that keeps them from what they want.
It’s always the same, once we identify their story, we are able to move forward more powerfully.
I use and give credit to many resources, and present in my own vulnerable way.
Dr. Karpman’s work with the drama and purpose triangle in the Power of Ted, Leadership and Self Deception (Arbinger) are great ways to identify someone focusing on what you do not want to have happen and the curse of objectifying human beings.
All of which is work of our egos, and driven for the most part by either fear or shame.
Which gives me the simple platform to show how that ego works by Shirzad Chamine in Positive Intelligence.
A simple 5 minute assessment for which he so graciously has given me permission to use on my website.
Through years of practicing these powerful tools by these brilliant teachers, Primal Leadership Business Coaching has been able to boil it down to some simple steps.
These steps are cauterized by the development of our 6th sense (Emotional Intelligence) and what I fondly refer to as the Clearing Model.
But Brenè has given me even more reason to celebrate the work we do.
She has laid out a simple way of stepping out of your fear and shame and into your brilliance.
I quote her from Rising Strong…
“Can we lean in to the vulnerability of emotion and stand in our truth?
Are we willing to lean in to the initial discomfort of curiosity and creativity so we can be braver with our lives?
Do we have the courage to rumble with our story?”
I’m in love with the work I do. And I hope to meet Brenè someday. She inspires me! Thank you Brenè!!!
I encourage you to read her books, I will leave you with a little more of her brilliance…
Manifesto of the Brave and Brokenhearted
There is no greater threat to the critics and cynics
And fear-mongers
Thank those of us who are willing to fall
Because we have learned how to rise
With skinned knees and bruised hearts;
We choose owning our stories of struggle,
Over Hiding, over hustling, over pretending.
When we deny our stories, we deny us.
When we run from struggle, we are never free.
So we turn toward truth and look it in the eye.
We will not be characters in our stories.
Not villains, not victims, not even heroes.
We are the authors of our lives.
We write our own daring endings.
We craft love from heartbreak,
Compassion from shame,
Grace from disappointment,
Courage from failure.
Showing up is our power.
Story is our way home.
Truth is our song.
We are the brave and brokenhearted.
We are rising strong.
A great Christmas present for my dear, sweet husband. Thanks, Jerry.
I hope you have a wonderful Holiday Season.
